Why Space Anime are Enchanting

Gazing at the sky is one of the quintessential needs of man. It has always inspired us in one way or an another. The vast sky motivates us to go on in life no matter what we face, They underscore our insignificance in this universe as an individual as well as a species. Space Anime are equally enchanting as well. Let’s go through some great anime in this genre which kindled those stargazing memories back.

Space Brothers has a very special place in my heart. It was the first anime, I saw related to Space. Although it doesn’t have a fancy plot, It takes a realistic approach in it’s plot . It’s a story of two brothers who want to pursue their career as astronauts. As one realizes his dream career, the other doesn’t. The anime takes on the story of how the other realizes his dream. It has a very deep philosophy embedded with it. It tells us to keep trying hard no matter how hard life hits at us. The story constantly underscores the fact that “It’s never too late to realize your dreams , No matter how hard it is “. That on itself gives motivation like those stars up in the sky did.

Planetes takes on a very real concept and takes on the story in a fun and inspiring way. It takes place in a future when space is available to all of humanity but human actions are causing it to become hostile. Kessler Syndrome is a scenario in which the density of objects in low earth orbit (LEO) is high enough that collisions between objects could cause a cascade where each collision generates space debris that increases the likelihood of further collisions. One implication is that the distribution of debris in orbit could render space activities and the use of satellites in specific orbital ranges unfeasible for many generations (It’s a real phenomena ). In order to prevent such effect, The Debris Collection Team is formed. But they are looked down by other departments in the space agency. The newly recruited protagonist changes it for rest of history. The story tells us to “Never give up on life , No matter how harsh the reality is , Work hard and taste it’s fruit ”

Cowboy Bebop although is a misleading title for an anime when it comes to Space Anime at first sight, It underscores one of the essential philosophy for the existence of man. It follow the lives of a bounty hunter crew traveling on their spaceship called Bebop. It explores philosophical concepts like existentialism, existential ennui, and loneliness. In a future when Earth is almost uninhabitable by an accident, Humanity has colonized most of the rocky planets and moons of the Solar System. We humans are now living in a temporary state of hiatus, Cowboy Bebop tells about our future in this Cosmos and foresees our true future in this Universe, to explore the Cosmos as Wanderers. It complements Dr.Carl Sagan’s thoughts and I quote,

“THE COSMOS EXTENDS, FOR ALL PURPOSES, FOREVER. AFTER A BRIEF SEDENTARY HIATUS, WE ARE RESUMING OUR ANCIENT NOMADIC LIFE”.

At first sight these anime might not seem of any particular importance, But when you unravel the deep philosophy in them Space Anime are truly enchanting…
